Title: Otter rescues phone dropped in water at Cornwall seal sanctuary Post by: Chris from Nailsea on September 27, 2014, 14:24:25 A story which may appeal to at least one of our members ... from the Western Daily Press (http://www.westerndailypress.co.uk/Otter-rescues-phone-dropped-water-Cornwall-seal/story-23007196-detail/story.html):

Jenny Lewis feared the iPhone would be lost for good after it fell into the water, until Starsky the Asian short-clawed otter dived into action. He swam down to the bottom of his tank before hauling the handset to the surface between his paws. Starsky gave it back to its animal care assistant owner, at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, in Gweek, near Helston. The attraction tweeted: "#phonegate ^ catastrophic loss of phone #Gweek Starsky the otter." Starsky's usual tricks include climbing up the mesh sides of his enclosure ^ although he's too afraid to come down by himself. ;D Title: Re: Otter rescues phone dropped in water at Cornwall seal sanctuary Post by: TonyK on September 28, 2014, 22:14:55 What we are not told is whether the phone now works. My (much older at the time) model fell from my shirt pocket into the toilet, fortunately before I had used it. I removed battery and SIM, and left everything to dry for a week. It worked to a point - the LCD display and the number 5 didn't work at first, but within a fortnight, all was back to normal. Similar happened 4 weeks ago with my Canon digital camera, this time ending up in the lake of a Cotswold water park - again, thorough drying and a resistance to the temptation to try it too early paid dividends.
