UPDATE: Leominster rail death "intentional act"

Leominster station was sealed off yesterday afternoon following a death on the tracks.

The man who died at Leominster railway station yesterday afternoon intended to step in front of the train, British Transport Police have said.

The deceased is described as a "adult, white male", and while police inquiries to determine his identity are ongoing, Inspector Andy Irwin-Porter said his officers had a number of good leads.

He said: "It was an intentional act, he has stepped in front of the train. We are dealing with it as non-suspicious."

The man was hit by a northbound train at around 3.30pm at Leominster station.

Local officers sealed off the station and closed off the Mill Street crossing point, while transport police could be seen conducting their investigation on the tracks.

A specialist team from the British Transport Police then attended Leominster station at around 6pm to finalise the investigation at the scene.

Trains began running again at around 10pm, and normal service resumed on the line this morning.
