ALL lines have been re-opened between Newbury and Bedwyn following an earlier incident in which a woman was hit by a train at Marsh Benham.

Service provider First Great Western confirmed that all lines were running at 12.45pm today (Monday), but that delays of around 30 minutes were expected until the backlog of delayed services had cleared.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police, who asked not to be named, said this morning: ^Officers from BTP and Thames Valley Police were called to Marsh Benham level crossing, near Newbury, after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

^Medics also attended and located the body of a woman with injuries consistent with having been hit by a train. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

^The incident, which was reported to BTP shortly after 10.30am, is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

^Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the woman and inform her family.

^A file is being prepared for the coroner.^

Disruption is expected until 2.15pm.

When ever I read of incidents like this my first thoughts are to all those affected by the incident.

Personally speaking this particular incident has hit home harder than normal because it is fairly close to where I live (Thatcham)
