A woman has died after being hit by a train near Yate. The incident happened at about 8am today near the Wickwar tunnel.

British Transport Police said the woman had been pronounced dead at the scene.

The line between Bristol Parkway and Gloucester was blocked for about two hours after the incident, with commuters advised to use alternative routes or other forms of transport.

A transport police spokesman said: ^The incident is not being treated as suspicious. Officers are now working to identify the woman and inform her family."

The investigation would be handed to the Avon Coroner, he added.
