Title: Melksham River Festival
Post by: grahame on September 07, 2014, 11:26:37
Great to see boats on the river in Melksham this weekend - something new, and hopeful y something to be repeated - as a trail boat rally initially, but then with the Wilts and Berks canal coming through to connect the Kennet and Avon cana just south of the town via Chippenhen, Wootton Bassett, Swindon, and Wantage to Abingdon.

I've already spoken with quite a few train users at Melksham, waiting to travel a long distance, who have come off boats at Seend and Semington - villages within the Melksham catchment - and going back to London and will be picking the boat up again a couple of weeks later.   And for every person on a boat passing on the canal, it's expected that around 25 will come to walk, to gongoozle, to cycle ...

Report on TransWilts / Connecting Wiltshire presence at the festival -

http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=14539.0

That's on the CRP back room board.   That particular board is available only to TransWilts Friends - if you're a contributing member here and would like to be added to that board's friends,  please let me know.   The main reason it's private in this was is to avoid diluting down the general board content for out of area members of the forum with lots of TransWilts stuff!
