Title: Hot air balloon taking off in Shirehampton Post by: Chris from Nailsea on August 09, 2014, 00:39:58 I think it was 'just' a 'tribute' to 'bignosemac'! ;) :D ;D
From the Bristol Post (http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Bristol-householder-wakes-hot-air-balloon-just/story-22130479-detail/story.html?ito=email_newsletter_bristolpost): Quote Bristol householder takes pictures of hot air balloon taking off near homes in Shirehampton (http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/images/localworld/ugc-images/276268/Article/images/22130479/6606051-large.jpg) A householder in Shirehampton was woken to the noise of a hot air balloon - taking off close to his house this morning. Martin Sims, who lives in Nibley Road, took pictures of the balloon, which he believes was launched from the City and Port of Bristol Sports Club field near his house. ^I was woken up to the loud noise of the burners,^ he said. ^I looked out of my window and saw the balloon going up right near the trees at the back of my garden." The Bristol Post understands that this balloon was not launched as part of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, which starts today at 12 noon. Even though I'm not partaking at the moment.
Also, I've broken my jinx. Went to Ashton Court late afternoon yesterday (Friday) and saw a mass ascent. Every time I'd gone in the past, since moving to Bristol, weather conditions weren't suitable for ballooning. With the years when I didn't go being perfect ballooning weather. Fortunately it managed to stay up long enough to cross the road and land safely in the field opposite.

Can I add to that my understanding that in general aviation circles, a landing after which everyone is still capable of walking unaided is known as a 'good landing'. That sounds more like the official definition of a crash. The terms are interchangeable. Either way, I'd have been happy if this man was driving: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_E._Fitch This page is printed from the "Coffee Shop" forum at http://gwr.passenger.chat which is provided by a customer of Great Western Railway.
