Title: freight derailment Lostwithiel 23rd July 2014.
Post by: LiskeardRich on July 23, 2014, 10:46:31
I have.just been to redruth station, all services are cancelled or.delayed to unknown times due to an overnight freight derailment at Lostwithiel.
Bus to work it is for me today - ^7.50 instead of 2.70 return redruth to Truro using bus instead of train.

As a side observation I was the only cash paying passenger, full bus and every other passenger on a bus pass! No wonder fares are so high.

1C99 first one stuck, 185 late leaving Liskeard, now 207 late from Truro.  Up main was unaffected.

Are all the up cancellations and delays due to trains not being able to get down first?
One service was delayed to time unknown and the rest in both directions were showing cancelled.

Up trains affected:

0828 XC PZ-Glasgow left PZ RT, (delayed at St Austell, cancelled at Plymouth).
0844 PZ-PAD left PZ RT, (delayed at St. Austell 72L, still enroute).

0940 XC & 1000 PAD cancelled PZ-PLY due to no down trains arriving to form service.

1047 PAD will run, incoming arrived PZ at 1152.

1141 Unit cancelled PZ-PLY due to no incoming, although 1047 will be running in its path-ish.

The up line was fine first thing, so I assume a block was needed on both lines for a short time.  For Redruth-Truro, the last train that ran to time was the 0913 (0844 from PZ).

Some wagons have derailed in the loop at Lostwithiel and are foul of the down line.  Single line working with a pilotman now in place using the up line.

That's a great excuse for a lie-in!
(For those not in the know, 1C99 is the Paddington to Penzance sleeper.)

See pictures doing the rounds.
"According to Genius, it would seem that the wagons for 6G05 rolled back from the Down Loop whilst the loco was running round!
Oops!!!"

Crikey.  In the 'old days' we would have arranged for the loco to go back on the other end and pull the wagons clear bumping them over the sleepers and ballast.  Job done in 10 mins tops :o :D ::) 8) ;).
