Title: Which station am I (and they) talking about?
Post by: grahame on July 08, 2014, 10:48:18
Curiously Erratic

Ragbag of services

Bizarre

I've been sent courtesy copies of a number of responses to the DfT's consultation, and some organisations such as the TransWilts CRP have published theirs.

"Let's start from where we are today" is a sensible approach to looking forward for the next 1, 3 or 5 years; to scrap something and start afresh may get to something better in a number of years, but at what early cost in terms of loss of existing traffic and goodwill.  And that often means incremental rather than wholesale changes ... there are (no doubt) exceptions, but even the TransWilts changes last December were incremental - it was just a big increment.

I was struck by the three comments, from three different organisations, different authors all of whom know what they're talking about ... about train services that call at one particular GW station.

Can you identify the station in question? Or perhaps think of other stations that the description might fit too?

Dilton Marsh and Frome would both probably fit the description.

Dilton Marsh and Frome would both probably fit the description.

It was Dilton Marsh that was described in that way.

Frome - don't know. I would be / am very careful not to apply negative comment to places / lines / services outside my immediate area of knowledge. Doubly so where the main service is another community rail one and I'm not privy to the detail of their current view.  I'm very much aware of negative comment made from elsewhere in the consultation ten years ago concerning the TransWilts service, and I am not about to do that to anyone else,  and indeed I ask others on the TransWilts team not to do it either, even if (regrettably) some local residents have in the distant past.
