Title: Where are the 180s? Post by: 81F on May 22, 2014, 06:42:02 I'd be very grateful if someone could tell me which journeys are now regularly operated by class 180 trains.
Title: Re: Where are the 180s? Post by: DidcotPunter on May 22, 2014, 07:59:50 7:34 from Didcot Parkway and 9:01 from Oxford to Paddington
Title: Re: Where are the 180s? Post by: Southern Stag on May 22, 2014, 11:47:50 There are four diagrams, Mondays-Fridays only. Any service with a 5xxx or 3xxx headcode are ECS movements, not passenger services.

Post by: IndustryInsider on May 22, 2014, 13:43:40 No changes since last timetable, except the 07:34 Didcot to Paddington fast has replaced the 04:57 Paddington to Oxford and 07:21 Oxford to Paddington slow services. This completes the removal of 180s from stopping trains, for which they weren't really suited due to the external door layout - with the exception of the evening 'Halts' Cotswold Line service, and arguably the 17:18 PAD-OXF semi-fast.
Title: Re: Where are the 180s? Post by: Busboy W1 on May 22, 2014, 17:03:38 Also the 18:49 from Worcester has been speeded up and is now the 20:01 departure from OXF vs 20:31 as previous was.
Title: Re: Where are the 180s? Post by: Southern Stag on May 22, 2014, 18:11:58 Yes, that was mainly achieved by timing the service for a 180 rather than an HST, which was previously used on the service. A couple of minutes improvement at most stops on the Cotswold line plus the removal of a long dwell at one station (I can't remember which now) allowed it to arrive at Oxford around 30 minutes earlier.
Title: Re: Where are the 180s? Post by: ChrisB on May 22, 2014, 18:54:27 Mainly achieved by the removal of some 13 minutes dwell time?
Title: Re: Where are the 180s? Post by: Southern Stag on May 22, 2014, 19:47:45 The 13 minutes of dwell time removed at Moreton-in-Marsh helped but the removal of a minute or two at every stop, possible as the service is now timed for a 180 rather than an HST, is just as important. You could have removed the 13 minute dwell if the service was still timed for an HST but it still wouldn't have made it possible to arrive at London 30 minutes earlier.
Title: Re: Where are the 180s? Post by: IndustryInsider on May 23, 2014, 16:08:19 It regularly used to sit at Oxford for ten minutes or so as well.
Title: Re: Where are the 180s? Post by: Andrew1939 from West Oxon on May 24, 2014, 09:15:11 My understanding is that in some cases increased dwell times on Up trains on the Cotswold Line is because FGW does not want them arriving at Oxford at times when Oxford station is particularly busy. I have found it frustrating to be stuck for 10 minutes or so at Moreton or Charlbury when I would be getting off at Hanborough, (before the Oxford trouble spot). Just another reason for the substantial redevelopment of Oxford station so that it can cope better with the higher number of trains using it (compared with some years ago) and scheduled to rise even more in the not too distant future.
