Title: Belated seat reservations
Post by: Pb_devon on April 21, 2014, 11:14:27
Last week I bought online from FGW 3 Super Offpeak PLY - PAD for the 1500 on 4 July.  The site stated that seat reservations were not possible. What's the process for reserving seats? Just call them?

PS: also copped the Nectar points ;D

I suspect you must have bought them just before Advance Tickets and seat reservations opened.

I have reserved seats via the phone before but if you want a physical piece of paper showing your seat numbers you should be able to get them from a booking office.  In theory they should charge you ^5 per seat but this has only happened to me once.

Incidentally with three of you travelling I assume you got a Groupsave 3?

Thanks bobm.
All are travelling on railcards, and I'd always assumed it was either Groupsave or Railcards - not both.....have I goofed?  ???

It is indeed GroupSave or Railcard. Three for the price of two, or individually one third off. Pretty much the same total price either way.

Had there been four of you travelling together throughout then GroupSave 4 (four for the price of two) would've been cheaper than each using a Railcard. At least until 18th May when there may be some changes to GroupSave. I've heard rumours that it'll be a one third discount for three, four, or five people. No longer to be 50% discount for four travelling together. Must stress this is only rumour, based on something London Midland are saying on their website. It may not apply to all TOCs who offer GroupSave, and may not be true at all.

You can be charged up to ^5 for each reservation. However in all reality it is extremely unlikely you would be charged considering you already have a valid ticket.

Season ticket holders can also be charged the fee, and NXEC introduced a reservation charge on every reservation. Look how long they lasted.

Thanks to all for guidance & info.
