Title: Who is responsible for station car park maintenance?
Post by: sanfrandragon on April 11, 2014, 16:25:46
My first post :)

There is a pot hole appearing at the entrance to the Maidenhead station car park on Shoppenhangers Road, so I emailed APCOA to warn them that a car might be damaged or pedestrian injured as drivers concentrate on avoiding the hole.

They emailed my back, suggesting I contact FGW as maintenance is their responsibility.  So I emailed FGW with the same advice.  As you can guess, they kindly called me back stating that no, it is the responsibility of APCOA!  Anyway I have let both parties know they are waiting for each other to do the repair and left them to sort it out.

We shall see - 2 weeks and counting!

Welcome to the forum sanfrandragon!  :)

Hopefully either FGW or APCOA will step up to the plate sometime soon and fix the pothole. However if they are anything like local authorities with the public highway, then you could be in for a bit of a wait!

APCOA on their website do mention that maintenance can be part of their contract to manage a car park. Whether that is the case with this specific car-park or more generally across all the FGW sites they manage I know not. Keep pestering both companies. A publicly viewable query on FGW's Twitter or Facebook accounts might hurry things along a bit.

Well done Ollie. That's saved the OP the need to go public!  ;D

Update!

As of yesterday a white line has been drawn around the pothole (which is now 50% bigger than when I first reported it, just under 7 weeks ago).

Thank you for the update.  Hopefully that will now mean some remedial work is on the way.

Indeed: thanks for posting your update, sanfrandragon!  :)

Hopefully, you will not see what has apparently happened here in North Somerset occasionally, whereby a second team is sent out, some weeks later - not to do the necessary repairs, but to re-paint the faded white lines around where the repairs are needed.  ::) :o

Hello,

I know the carpark and I know the pothole well   ;)
It is getting deeper by the day and is a real suspension cruncher.

I can confirm that FGW are responsible for the maintainence of that particular carpark, and that APCOA are simply subcontracted to collect the cash.  I know this because I took a nasty tumble in the same carpark last winter when no effort had been made to grit the surface at all.  FGW accepted responsibility for that, so I would pursue them over the pothole.

PS. rather makes a mockery of FGW's declaration that the reason for increasing parking fees at that site by 200% inthe past 5 years is to ensure first class infrastructure and safety....  ???

The paint lines have now faded (and crater remains at >6" deep) so I am awaiting the "re-drawing" team any day now.... ;D

Result!

14 weeks later the pot hole has been filled, albeit with a temporary looking patch.

Electric Train I think your reply is extremely cynical! I think the private sector is extremely efficient at passing the buck when the chance arises :) :) :)
