Title: Melksham shelter brilliant, how about Dorchester?
Post by: Alan Pettitt on April 06, 2014, 21:42:46
Having admired the new shelter at Melksham a few times recently has made me think about the totally inadequate shelter at Dorchester West, during the recent monsoons there have (especially for the first afternoon train on Sundays) = (first train on Sundays when loads of students seem to be travelling back to Bath and Bristol!) often been over 35 people trying to get out of the rain, about 8 can fit in the 'bus' shelter, others have umbrellas, and some stay on the Weymouth bound platform (which has a full length canopy) until the train is due, then try to run over the bridge just as the train comes in. Would it not be more sensible for the Castle Cary/Frome/Bristol trains to stop at the platform with the canopy and the Weymouth bound trains which never seem to have more than 2-3 passengers boarding stop on the side that has the bus shelter. Actually, I can only remember one occasion in the last 5 years that there was a train at each platform so most of the time the trains could stop on the 'canopy' side which would the solve the accessibility problem, to save passengers having to travel to Upwey and then come back.
