Title: Fares anomaly for travellers to Exeter Post by: PhilWakely on March 17, 2014, 17:57:37 This may have already been mentioned, but it is worth noting that at the moment if you are travelling on FGW to Exeter it is cheaper to get some tickets to Plymouth instead but still get off and on at Exeter.
FGW are currently offering a 25% discount on routes into the West Country that are affected by the line closure at Dawlish and this has thrown up this anomaly. For instance this Saturday a Super Off Peak return via Taunton going out on the 09:57 is ^80.50. However if you buy a ticket on the same train but to Plymouth it is ^68 and the ticket conditions mean you are perfectly entitled to break your journey and not continue it at Exeter! The same works for Groupsave 4s with the price to Exeter being ^161 whilst the price to Plymouth is ^25 cheaper at ^136! You have not mentioned your origin but assuming it is London Paddington. London Paddington to Newton Abbot Super Off Peak return is ^64.30 Title: Re: Fares anomaly for travellers to Exeter Post by: bobm on March 17, 2014, 18:51:17 A Super Off Peak Return London Paddington to Dawlish or Teignmouth is ^59.50
