Title: West Wilts Rail User Group AGM, plus talk "Future of the Heart of Wessex" Post by: grahame on March 09, 2014, 11:40:47 Bradford-on-Avon, from 19:00, 27th March 2014. Melksham members / public see note below poster about brand new return times.
West Wiltshire Rail Users Group website - http://www.wwrug.org.uk (http://www.wellho.net/pix/wwrug_20140327.jpg) Very recent ("Stop Press") news for anyone attending this meeting from Melksham. The 18:03 train remains correct for getting to the meeting. But you no longer have to wait until the next morning to get back - as from just a few weeks ago, you can return on the train from Bradford-on-Avon at 21:37, changing at Bath Spa and Chippenham, and reaching Melksham (Market Place) at 22:47. Since last December [2013], the final TransWilts train on a Monday to Friday has left Chippenham at 20:29 - which was in itself a huge improvement over the previous last train of 19:01 (now 19:07). And as from the end of January [2014], a new reciprocal arrangement has been in place, thanks to Wiltshire Council for helping to set this up, for the 22:26 bus from Chippenham station to accept train tickets to Melksham and Trowbridge. I used this on Friday night - left Manchester after a full day's work and it was magic! The meeting should be over in time to catch the 21:37, as the return train advertised to Weymouth leaves at 21:23 The dark humour of the "next day to return" joke has been greatly appreciated over the years, as it's one of the ways that the West Wiltshire Rail Users Group has assisted in keeping the poor services to the West Wilts town of Melksham in the public eye. Thank goodness the joke can now be retired, thanks to the help of many people and groups! Meeting held in the main hotel as the coach house (where AGM is normally held) is still being dried out following the flooding over Christmas .

Thank goodness the joke can now be retired, thanks to the help of many people and groups! Please excuse the possibly naiive question, but whilst the "dark humour" might once have been appreciated, what place does it have on a poster advertising a meeting in March 2014, several months AFTER a far more sensible commuter service was introduced, thanks to a great deal of hard work by a diverse range of groups? Doesn't it being included on their posters suggest that the West Wiltshire "Rail Users Group" is in fact completely out of touch with the very travelling public it seeks to attract to its meetings, and thus call into question the validity of the group itself?
