Title: Trowbridge to Bolton query
Post by: rogerw on January 23, 2014, 21:07:45
A bit of a challenge for you fares buffs out there.  Return from Trowbridge to Bolton, out on Friday 28 February via Manchester Airport, returning Sunday 2 March.  Times flexible although I want to avoid advance fares.  Cheapest I can find, with railcard, is ^52.80 via Hereford.  Is there anything cheaper?

Not sure how Arriva Trains Wales Club 55 might work out ... or indeed whether I'm insulting you be even suggesting that, Roger [which railcard is it?].  I used a 23 pound Severn Tunnel Junction to Chester return yesterday - that's the lower "not Friday" price - but I suspect that the add ons etc will take you over the 52.80 where part of the journey is a Friday

Thanks for that Grahame.  I did subsequently find Club 55 (well above the required age) and as my plans have now changed to include a NW rover I only need a ticket to Manchester.  Also I am now travelling out on Thursday and back on Monday.  The add on to include the Northern train via the airport is very little, so a definite saving ;D
