Title: Train replaced by (?) Bus or Taxi Post by: grahame on January 20, 2014, 17:20:15 Quote 17:36 Swindon to Westbury due 18:21 This train will be cancelled. This is due to a train fault. Road transport will be used for services to and from Melksham. For the latest rail travel news, why not follow us on Twitter @FGW. Well ... trains break down occasionally. Glad to see that road transport is being laid on rather than a 75 minute wait, and that the information has been conveyed on this. Title: Re: Train replaced by (?) Bus or Taxi Post by: Phil on January 20, 2014, 18:45:06 Information wasn't THAT well conveyed - it consisted at Chippenham of a man walking up and down the platform shouting "Anyone for Melksham" about 2 minutes after the train was due to have departed. There was no information at Swindon other than "Cancelled" on the displays (as a consequence of which I hopped onto an HST that stopped at Chippenham hoping for the best from there, as I had happened to be on business over in Swindon today)
A taxi was provided at Chippenham for 3 of us going to Melksham. One girl was trying to get to Bratton and in two minds whether to get a train to Bath and dogleg across to Westbury. Turned out another passenger was going to Bratton as well and had his car parked at Melksham, so he gave her a lift from there. Sadly FGW lost two regular passengers today as a result of the breakdown. Can't be helped though I suppose.
