Title: More trains on the main line today ...
Post by: grahame on January 08, 2014, 07:45:14
It will be very interesting to see what service resilience is like today with extra trains on the Royal Wootton Bassett to Thingley Junction stretch ...

Quote
Cancellations to services between Swindon and Bristol Parkway Owing to flooding between Swindon and Bristol Parkway fewer trains are able to run on all lines.
Impact:
Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 45 mins or diverted at short notice. Disruption is expected until 23:59 08/01.
Additional Information:
The 15 minutes past the hour London Paddington to Cardiff Central services are cancelled. The 55 minutes past the hour Cardiff Central to London Paddington services starting from 09:55 are cancelled. The 45 minutes past the hour Paddington to Swansea services will be diverted via Bath Spa not calling at Bristol Parkway but calling additionally at Didcot Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood. Road transport has been requested to supplement the train service between Filton Abbey Wood and Bristol Parkway.

Interesting they are stopping at Filton Abbey Wood rather than Patchway in lieu of stopping at Bristol Parkway. Makes sense to do this I suppose.

Much better connectional service between Bristol Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood.     Direct trains from Bristol Parkway to Patchway only run at 07:40 (journey time 4 minutes) and 20:00 (journey time 25 minutes!)

Also, and posting as one who has spent an incredibly cold hour on the very exposed Patchway station, rather than at the relatively sheltered Filton Abbey Wood, during my own Network Rail safety briefing, I can tell you which one I'd prefer!  :o ::) ;D
