Quote Train damaged and delayed after striking tyre on track near Liskeard British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses after a train was damaged and delayed by a tyre thought to have been deliberately placed on the track. Officers are calling for information after the high-speed service, travelling on Sunday December 22 towards Penzance, struck the tyre at around 1.20pm between Menheniot and Liskeard. Investigating officer DC Dave Bailey said: ^The driver of First Great Western^s 0857hrs London Paddington to Penzance service reported striking the lorry tyre which was on the line. He brought the train to a halt and, although the train suffered some damage, he was able to continue after a delay of around 30 minutes.^ DC Bailey added thankfully nobody was injured in the incident but said it could have been much more serious. ^Placing objects on the railway line is an extremely dangerous act and could result in serious consequences.
