Title: Re: The story of a lost bear... Post by: stuving on December 16, 2013, 12:27:16 Watch out for a flood of news/media coverage, as it's the kind of cuddly item that some editors can't resist. I've just seen quite a long piece on France 2 lunchtime news.

Post by: Chris from Nailsea on February 15, 2015, 19:11:07 I'm posting this item on our 'lighter side' board, if only because James Davis of First Great Western seems to share my own inclination to offer you some apawling puns. :P
From the FGW press release: Quote Show some Valentine^s Teddy Lovin and get these lost bears home Can you share the Valentine^s Day love and help reunite these lost teddy bears and other cuddly toys with their families? Show a little heart and help us to get them home. Show some Teddy Lovin. Separated from their loved ones, they have all been found travelling on the First Great Western network, stretching across 10 counties from London Paddington to Furze Platt, from Bere Alston to Patchway, and from Honeybourne to Peru^sey. Unable to negotiate the gap unaided, these little bears and other cute cuddly toys have lost their families. Eventually, aided by our helpful and friendly staff, they have found their way to Lost Property in the vaults of Bristol Temple Meads Station. They have been fed, looked after and many adventures have been had. But now they are missing loved ones and want to return home. Can you help them? Should you recognise any of our most wanted cuddly toys please email teddyrescue@firstgroup.comdescribing the lost bear, highlighting any distinctive features, the direction of escape (where they were lost); their name, your name, full address and contact details. The campaign Since Teddy Rescue was launched in November 2014, many people have offered to provide a new home for a lost toy, but we have been unable to reunite single bear or cuddly with their original family. Help us get them home. Lost bears and other cuddly toys not reunited with their owner within three months will embark on new adventures with a Children^s charity. (My highlighting. CfN.) Title: Re: Could you help to get these paw bears back to their homes, please? Post by: JayMac on August 11, 2015, 14:12:02 Still not a single bear reunited with its owner. :(
From the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-33845215): Quote First Great Western lost teddy bears to go to charity (http://ichef-1.bbci.co.uk/news/660/media/images/79171000/jpg/_79171714_teddy6_lrg.jpg) The train firm has taken mug shots of the bears and their descriptions Unclaimed teddy bears found on First Great Western trains are be donated to children's charities following an unsuccessful campaign to reunite them with their owners. The firm launched its campaign last November, but has so far been unable to reunite a single toy with its owner. There are currently more than 40 soft toys in its lost property. A spokesman said some would be donated to charity if not claimed within the next three months. The toys were all found travelling on the First Great Western network, which covers the Thames Valley, Hampshire, London, Dorset, Sussex, Wiltshire, Somerset, Avon, Gloucestershire, Hereford, Worcestershire, Devon, Cornwall and South Wales. (http://ichef-1.bbci.co.uk/news/624/cpsprodpb/931B/production/_84795673_43c21432-49c0-4f1b-9e18-a974d7a6db89.jpg) Some of the soft toys have been photographed against a beach backdrop for summer A spokesman for the firm said it receives about 15 lost toys every three months. As well as bears, he said there was a "huge range" of different cuddly animals including monkeys, rabbits, a hedgehog, penguin and lion. He said toys found towards the start of the campaign would be washed and sent to children's charities if they remained unclaimed in November. The train company, which originally hoped to return the toys to their owners in time for Christmas, had used mug shots of the toys on its website and posters but has now also photographed some against a beach backdrop for summer. The train company's website enables people to submit a search (https://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/contents/teddyrescue) for a teddy, even if they are unable to remember exactly where it was lost. Post by: grahame on August 11, 2015, 16:27:53 I have been working out the Body Mass Indexes of those bears ... and it would appear that Paddington is seriously underweight and probably needs medical attention. The one at the bottom found in Plymouth is obese, but not morbidy so, and should probably have a carefully controlled food intake and more gentle exercise.

Railcard has gone missing here. Will go and check that the Gorilla hasn't taken it off on a jolly to Plymouth. Title: Re: Could you help to get these paw bears back to their homes, please? Post by: Chris from Nailsea on March 03, 2016, 21:53:09 An update, from the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-35706970):
Quote Railway campaign reunites lost toys with owners (http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/660/cpsprodpb/6300/production/_88544352_fac16508-0c13-44d7-a02a-3c9293e9c5f7.jpg) The train firm took mug shots of the bears and their descriptions for the campaign Two soft toys found on trains have finally been reunited with their owners following a year-long campaign. Great Western Railway (GWR) launched a campaign to find the owners of more than 40 toys in its lost property in November 2014. It had previously failed and the cuddly animals were due to be donated to charity. However, GWR said two bunny toys had successfully been returned to their owners. (http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/624/cpsprodpb/17088/production/_88544349_rabbits.jpg) Two bunny toys have now been claimed and reunited with their owners The toys, which also included bears, monkeys, a hedgehog, penguin and lion, were all found on GWR trains. Any remaining unclaimed toys have been washed and are expected to be donated to children's charities.
