A month-long promotion will see some of the most talked about restaurants in Looe provide free samples to customers travelling the Looe Valley Line. The award winning "munch-time express", which returned on Tuesday, is aimed at promoting the local restaurant industry. This month The Old Sail Loft; Barclay House; Ocean & Earth Thai Restaurant; The Blue Plate Downderry in Looe and the Plough at Duloe will all be taking part. Rebecca Catterall from the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership who helped organise the event said: "There are many excellent restaurants in and around the Looe Valley and this event is a great opportunity to sample some of their food whilst enjoying a trip on the Looe Valley Line." First Great Western, which operates the line, runs the UK's only on-train fine dining restaurant. General Manager David Crome said the initiative follows in the same vein. He said: "First Great Western is committed to supporting the communities we serve and, surrounded by some of the best ingredients in the World, we are happy to announce the return of the munchtime express. "Following the ethos of our Pullman Dining, what better way to keep people moving than to let them do so while discovering some of the hidden food gems in their area, with produce cooked and presented by our own local restaurateurs." It is the fourth year the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership has run the scheme, which in 2010 was named best marketing event at the Community Rail Awards. The train leaves at 12.47 from Looe station every Tuesday until December 3, returning at 1.50pm. For more information or to book a place on the train call 01752584777. Normal train fares apply. An Adult Off Peak Day Return fare from Looe to Liskeard is ^4.00. GroupSave allows four people to travel for the price of two Adult Off Peak Day Return fares. Supplying the food today was the Ocean and Earth Thai restaurant. On departure from Looe (1247), the main was served. It was a Chicken Matsuman curry which they managed to serve hot! Although not the prettiest of dishes, it was certainly very tasty! After a drink of Lemonade around Coombe Junction, the desert was served on departure from Liskeard (1318). Desert was a Honey, whiskey and lime dressing tropical fruit salad which also went down very nicely. Around 45 people were present for the return trip amongst a couple of puzzled travelers! All enjoyed the food and enjoyed the novelty of being served food on a crowded 153!
