The man killed after being hit by a train has been identified by police.

Robert Stidworthy died when he was hit by a train in Sway in the New Forest on Saturday.

The 47-year-old, from Hordle, had not been seen since the previous day.

Officers from BTP and Hampshire Constabulary attended the railway line near Sway rail station following a report on Saturday, 26 October at 6.25pm of a body on the tracks.

Medics from South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended but Mr Stidworthy was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is being treated as non-suspicious.

Officers had initially been unable to identify the man as he had no identification on him and his fingerprints were not on the police database.

Following a media appeal, BTP officers were able to establish that the man had been reported missing earlier this week.

The man^s family have been informed and an inquest into the death of the man is due to be opened and adjourned by the local Coroner.
