Title: Family & Friends Railcard ^10 off Post by: JayMac on October 16, 2013, 02:40:03 A special offer, running until 1st November 2013 gives ^10 off the Family & Friends Railcard, ^20 instead of the usual ^30.
If you travel more than a couple of times a year with at least one child, then this card is well worth having. In fact at ^20 you may well make a saving on one trip. The card gives 1/3 off all Adult Standard Class (incl. Std Advance) tickets and 60% off the equivalent Child tickets. The only time restrictions barring use of the card are for the Monday-Friday morning peak on journeys wholly within the London and South East area. The offer is available through the following link: http://www.familyandfriends-railcard.co.uk/saving10/ Title: Re: Family & Friends Railcard ^10 off Post by: Brucey on October 19, 2013, 17:54:47 I wonder how many people will be misled by this statement: "So for just ^20 a year you will get a year's worth of rail fares for you and your friends and family."
Implies to me that all your rail fares for a year are included in the ^20 ::) Title: Re: Family & Friends Railcard ^10 off Post by: Chris from Nailsea on October 19, 2013, 22:05:55 Oh - is that not the case? :o
I've already bought one, on the basis of my understanding that it did include all the rail fares for a year for me and my friends and family ... :-[ That's what it said on that site - which is ^ 2013 ATOC Ltd ::) Title: Re: Family & Friends Railcard ^10 off Post by: bobm on October 19, 2013, 22:08:53 I've got no friends so I couldn't get a card anyway! ;D ;D
Seriously though I do agree it is a rather sweeping statement on behalf of the promoters that someone will no doubt attempt to exploit. Title: Re: Family & Friends Railcard ^10 off Post by: JayMac on October 19, 2013, 22:53:06 Quote So for just ^20 a year you will get a year's worth of rail fares for you and your friends and family. It's an unfortunate error omitting the word 'discounted' from that sentence. Also, 'get' should really be 'be entitled to'. However, the full terms and conditions of the use of the railcard (one linked click away from the special offer page) do state quite clearly the entitlement. Furthermore, the website's Liability Disclaimer will protect ATOC from any legal claim arising from the poorly composed sentence: Quote Liability Disclaimer This website is for the provision of information and for the purchase of Railcard products. In no event shall ATOC Limited and/or its suppliers be liable for any loss of profit, loss of opportunity, loss of business, loss of revenue, wasted time, wasted costs, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss arising out of or in any way connected with the use of this website or with the delay or inability to use this website, or for any information, products, and services obtained through this website, or otherwise arising out of the use of this website, whether based on contract, tort, strict liability or otherwise, even if ATOC Limited or any of its suppliers has been advised of the possibility of damages. Except in relation to liability for death or personal injury, for which no limit applies, the liability of ATOC Limited and/or its respective suppliers for direct loss arising out of the use of this website, whether based on contract, tort, strict liability or otherwise, is limited to the total value of the transaction under which the claim arises for any one event or series of connected events. This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer. Caveat emptor. At best, from all that, the most you would be entitled to would be a refund on the purchase price of the railcard if you bought it thinking the twenty quid would give you and your family & friends a years worth of rail travel at no further cost. Oh my. I'm defending ATOC. I think I need a lie down. Finally. My forum signature isn't just a nice scrolling image of original livery Class 43 power cars. Note the text. :P ;) ;D EDIT: I do think though that there should be some legal avenue to explore for holding ATOC (a UK corporate body) to account for the US spelling of 'endeavours'. :P This page is printed from the "Coffee Shop" forum at http://gwr.passenger.chat which is provided by a customer of Great Western Railway.
