Title: Signallers become dispatchers Post by: bobm on September 04, 2013, 21:57:49 According to the latest issue of RAIL Magazine Network Rail plans to rename signallers from 2015. Henceforth they will be known as dispatchers. It sounds almost like an Americanism to me (the sort of thing I hate with a passion!).

Just as my grandmother insisted on being called Mr Mayor when she was Mayor of Southamton my mother was the Mayoress. Never liked signallers they are the cheerful cockney types that stand at the back of a warships bridge making cheeky quips in WW2 films. But dispatchers is even worse will they now be standing on the platform end handing train orders to the drivers. As for platform staff DSO sounds a bit too grand.
