Title: Christmas Exodus - Busy Trains
Post by: BandHcommuter on December 21, 2007, 10:27:23
The guard on my train up this morning announced that all West of England trains from Paddington are fully booked this afternoon. Those of us without reservations will have to get there early and take a chance on coach C (which is now the unreserved coach on HSTs). I might take the alternative route to Westbury via Bath Spa.  :-\

From what I have heard boarding controls will be in place today.

or try the 17:45 change at Swindon .... the route that Brunel built all the way before the B&H was opened .

Have a great Christmas whichever way you go!

Yes indeed, and a good journey time on that route too. I managed to skive off early in the end, and took a comfortable half-full train to Bath. West of England passengers were being herded into the cage on Platform   8 at Paddington for boarding control so I gave it that a miss.

Anyway, a Merry Christmas to forum convenors and members!

You were wise to travel via Bath. West of England trains are busy at the best of times but at Christmas/Easter and bank holidays they should have a government health warning attached to using them saying AVOID! And with careful planning you can as you have proved.

Niiiiiiiiice

I had the pleasure of standing in the footwell (the step near the doors) of a class 142 today as it was so wedged.

On the other hand, I had a 4 car pacer to and from Paignton.
