Title: A curious excuse
Post by: Worcester_Passenger on August 09, 2013, 19:05:44
Journeycheck is reporting

17:15 Didcot Parkway to Great Malvern due 19:24
This train will no longer call at Combe and Finstock.
This is due to an unusually large passenger flow.

unusual for that route or in general? i can see how this may a strange reason however this is one of the most common causes for delays on the network, its just not mentioned unless stops have to be cut out or there are a very very high number of people trying to board/alight.... in fact when it is the reply is normally 'so its the passengers fault' ... well kinda  :D but with rolling stock being pretty thin on the ground and demand high this will probably continue until more trains arrive. The following video is from south west trains about their fleet expansion  and mentions the issue   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPdezj8DkL4&feature=youtu.be

A derailment at Worcester this morning meant that Cotswold line services were a bit mixed up all day. When trains don't call at Combe and Finstock it's usually because the usual 2-car turbo or Adelante has been replaced by a 3-car turbo, which isn't allowed to call at those "halts" because of their short platforms.

I also believe that the additional coaches were already booked on this service because of Wilderness festival, near Charlbury.

Now makes sense.
