Title: Are our stations safe?
Post by: grahame on August 06, 2013, 10:11:13
Here are "crime maps" for the TransWilts line ...

http://crimemaps.btp.police.uk/data/?q=Swindon,%20UK#station
http://crimemaps.btp.police.uk/data/?q=Chippenham,%20Wiltshire,%20UK#station
http://crimemaps.btp.police.uk/data/?q=Melksham,%20Wiltshire%20SN12,%20UK#station
http://crimemaps.btp.police.uk/data/?q=Trowbridge,%20Wiltshire%20BA14,%20UK#station
http://crimemaps.btp.police.uk/data/?q=Westbury,%20Wiltshire,%20UK#station
http://crimemaps.btp.police.uk/data/?q=Frome,%20Somerset%20BA11,%20UK#station
http://crimemaps.btp.police.uk/data/?q=Dilton%20Marsh,%20Wiltshire,%20UK#station
http://crimemaps.btp.police.uk/data/?q=Warminster,%20Wiltshire%20BA12,%20UK#station
http://crimemaps.btp.police.uk/data/?q=Salisbury,%20Wiltshire,%20UK#station

And a note from the web site: "Please note: Crime statistics need to be viewed in context. For instance, busy stations will inevitably generate more reported crime than those that are less busy. Long term trends are usually a better indication of the true picture."

The best comparison is, then , the "crimes per 100,000 journeys" but bearing in mind that the numbers are so small that just a single incident can make a significant change at some of our less busy stations.

A reminder for the upcoming BTP surgery at Trowbridge Station.

From the British Transport Police (http://www.btp.presscentre.com/Media-Releases/Drop-in-and-meet-British-Transport-Police-officers-at-Trowbridge-railway-station-23b3.aspx):

Drop in and meet British Transport Police officers at Trowbridge railway station

Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) are hosting a drop-in surgery at Trowbridge railway station on Wednesday, 9 October 2013, to provide an opportunity for passengers, local people and rail staff to discuss any concerns and priorities for policing the railways.

The officers will be holding the session at Trowbridge railway station from 5pm-7pm on 9 October.

Those who attend will be able to meet and speak to officers whose beat includes stations and the railway line throughout Wiltshire, and on to Bath and Bristol Temple Meads.

BTP is keen to listen to any concerns or comments passengers or rail staff may have about policing and crime on the railways or at stations. Officers will also be there to provide information and advice on how to avoid becoming a victim of crime and to talk about the variety of work done by BTP, including helping to prevent the theft of passenger property and bicycles.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Jon Gale said: ^It is vital that local people who regularly use trains and stations are able to have their say on how they are policed. We want to listen to any ideas or concerns they may have, and then do something about them. I hope people can take the time to come and meet the team. Any issues which are raised are fed into our regular tasking meetings to discuss issues relating to safety and security at stations. This is your opportunity to have a direct say on the subjects which matter to you. We look forward to welcoming you at Trowbridge station on Wednesday, 9 October.^

For further information about the surgery please contact PCSO Jon Gale on 0117 305 4030 or email jonathan.gale@btp.pnn.police.uk or bath.npt@btp.pnn.police.uk.
