They are basically taking passengers on trust to already have the ticket they are 'extending', because in theory a BZ fare is of no value without the ticket or season it is extending. People are already currently trusted not to buy two short tickets rather than one for the full length of their journey so I guess they can also be trusted to only buy Boundary Zone tickets correctly.
