Quote First Great Western (@FGW) 27/07/2013 15:30 The 14.06 Paddington to Penzance train has failed. Will be returning to Paddington in 45 minutes. Passengers can get on the next service. Passenger tweeted Quote Jon B (@jonathanitb) 27/07/2013 15:51 @FGW please give #BobTheTrainManager a bonus tonight? He's manually applying the new carriage and is awesome. RT everyone! #prayfor1406 Anyone care to translate as to what the TM has done? :-o Title: Re: 14.06 Paddington to Penzance train has failed (27/07) Post by: ChrisB on July 27, 2013, 16:54:01 Still ongoing - not yet back at PAD.
Quote First Great Western (@FGW) 27/07/2013 16:45 The 14.06 service from Paddington is currently being tested to make sure it is OK to move back to Paddington. Looking at another 20 minutes Title: Re: 14.06 Paddington to Penzance train has failed (27/07) Post by: SandTEngineer on July 27, 2013, 16:55:39 Don't know. However the 1406 (1C85) has just made it back into Platform No.1 at Paddington (at 1650) after failing between Ladbroke Grove and Ealing Broadway :P
Title: Re: 14.06 Paddington to Penzance train has failed (27/07) Post by: Busboy W1 on July 27, 2013, 20:47:45 I think the T.M in this case must of had some interaction with the attachment of 1Z99 one of the 57s from OOC which then dragged the HST back to PAD. At one point it was over 160mins down. Well done to the staff at PAD though with over 260 pax onboard and no doubt engulfed with EF Language students anyway and then this to deal with. Shame the t.v crew were at OXF instead!

Title: Re: 14.06 Paddington to Penzance train has failed (27/07) Post by: bobm on July 28, 2013, 10:27:14 Seems Penzance services are jinxed this weekend.
After Saturday's problem the first two Sunday trains to Cornwall have been cancelled. The 08:00 derailed in Old Oak Common. Meanwhile the 08:57, which was probably carrying passengers from the 08:00 as well as its own load, failed at Twyford. Fingers crossed for the next one. According to the live feed neither of these Penzance services are cancelled! One is terminating short at Twyford, the other is starting short at Plymouth. Does starting it short mean its not reportable as a cancellation? Title: Re: 14.06 Paddington to Penzance train has failed (27/07) Post by: bobm on July 28, 2013, 10:52:10 Maybe but for the first train if you are travelling from stations east of Plymouth the service starting from there is not much use and for the second it wasn't booked to call at Twyford so the service was no benefit to anyone wishing to go west.

The first = 'part cancellation' - I think shows up as a 0.5 in the stats. The second terminated at Twyford = cancelled. Title: Re: 14.06 Paddington to Penzance train has failed (27/07) Post by: ChrisB on July 28, 2013, 12:49:19 Not sure why so many failures on this route....
Another - Seems that the 0947 ex-PNZ being terminated at EXD. Title: Re: 14.06 Paddington to Penzance train has failed (27/07) Post by: ChrisB on July 28, 2013, 13:19:49 Eh? Now the 1500 ex-PNZ being terminated at PLY.....what?

Cancellation / short running symetry ;-) ... Two trains London to Penzance didn't make it this morning, so two trains back won't make it either. That's the 15:00 and 15:50 off Penzance. One of them is running short and will connect into the train from Newquay - it may get a bit cosey, but looks like the delay will be no more than 85 minutes to anyone. And there's a later through train at 17:25 from Penzance. Ends up with the stock in the right place for tomorrow. Title: Re: 14.06 Paddington to Penzance train has failed (27/07) Post by: LiskeardRich on July 28, 2013, 16:41:52 I'm guessing that it was a unit that has run short from Plymouth and back. Wouldn't want to go all the way to Paddington on that!
It will connect into the Newquay train and without a timetable to hand I'd have a guess there is a Plymouth to Paddington as well for passengers to use? Title: Re: 14.06 Paddington to Penzance train has failed (27/07) Post by: bobm on July 28, 2013, 16:53:34 One slight snag... the on board crew for the down sleeper usually travel to Paddington on the 15:50 from Penzance. They could get the 17:25 but it would mean a late start for the sleeper and no early boarding.
Title: Re: 14.06 Paddington to Penzance train has failed (27/07) Post by: LiskeardRich on July 28, 2013, 17:27:52 I've just returned from Redruth station to pre purchase my weekly season ticket for the week ahead. The waiting room is rather crowded to say the least. The 1753 from Redruth to Paddington is showing on the boards that first class is declassified. If the number of people at Redruth is anything to go by its going to be a very full train.
Bear in mind I was at Redruth at about 1710, so a good 45 minutes before the service is due. The next Penzance bound wasn't until 1801 (showing as delayed on the boards, didn't catch how delayed though) Title: Re: 14.06 Paddington to Penzance train has failed (27/07) Post by: Super Guard on July 29, 2013, 11:32:08 One slight snag... the on board crew for the down sleeper usually travel to Paddington on the 15:50 from Penzance. They could get the 17:25 but it would mean a late start for the sleeper and no early boarding. ;) As it turned out, they somehow ended up on the NQY-PAD service, which the TM & Driver for the sleeper work up, so no sleeper delay. From all accounts that wasn't a very pleasant train to be on going up though. The PLY-PNZ-PLY service was indeed a 150 vice HST.
