Title: Summer Saturdays to the West
Post by: bobm on July 06, 2013, 08:54:01
There may very well be a good reason for it, but you have to question the wisdom of putting a seven coach HST on the 07:30 Paddington to Penzance this morning.

The train will be busy going down and I expect even busier coming back this afternoon.

You would have thought there would be a spare set on a Saturday or failing that a swap made so there was the full eight coaches.

I know sets have their maintenance requirements but you would hope putting eight coaches on a busy West of Englad service on a Saturday would have been a priority.

Please have pity on anyone who has to travel on the 1551 ex PAD to the Cotswold Line on a summer Friday. The existing HST service which is usually packed to capacity will change to an Adelante when the West of England summer service comes in.

Last Sunday I got on a Bristol-London service thinking it was rather busy, turned out it was only a 2+7. I then got on another Bristol-London service later and it was a 2+9 with a full 7 standard class carriages available for use. That service had somewhat more room to spread out.
