Title: Outside the UK, where have I been?
Post by: Brucey on July 05, 2013, 17:11:50
No prizes, just for fun.  One guess per person for first 48 hours, then open to all.  Also not open to anyone who follows me on Twitter or are friends with me on Facebook, for the first 48 hours, as you'll probably be able to guess many of these

If you can't name the station, guess where you think it may be and I'll let you know whether you are warm or cold.

You are correct in thinking the train is Swiss, however the station is not in Switzerland.

I'll not answer as I know where Brucey has been thanks to Facebook.

Suffice to say though, that I'd've struggled to get any without prior knowledge.

I agree, they are tough.  Originally uploaded to accompany a post discussing the pros/cons of Trenitalia versus rail in the UK, I decided to make them into a little quiz first.

To aid, they are all take in the same country.  Another clue: the order in which I visited these is: 2-5-2-3-4-3-2-6-1.

I'd guess Roma Termini for number 3.

I'd guess Roma Termini for number 3.
Very far away.  3 is not actually on the Italian "mainland".

Venice, I think ... looks very vaguely familiar

Correct.  Venezia Santa Lucia.

I've only arrived there twice, and left once - d'oh! First time, we came in from Peschiera on Lake Garda, arriving at a platform between a Eurostar and the Orient Express. You would have thought it was memorable.

Given that 48 hours have elapsed, can I have a second try?

4 is one of the waterbus piers in Venice. You can see the ACTV logo on the gates. Which particular pier I'm not sure, because I don't remember anything as big as this. So I'm guessing it's the main pier at the Lido.

Definitely.  We're open to all now.

Absolutely correct!  I was surprised to be issued with my ticket on a disposable cardboard smartcard.  Definitely something that could be considered for Oyster and other smartcard implementations.

6 Milano Metro/Airport service.

Assuming you mean photo 1, then yes, it is the Milan Metro.  The line is the yellow line (M3).

Interestingly the power is overhead.  Also full mobile phone coverage is available throughout the underground network.
