Just recieved some information, about Crossrail works in and around Maidenhead, from Sunday 26th May 2013 :). Modified to 26/05/13 as the 29th May is a Wednesday. Sorry for the confusion. It looks as if the main works will be on track realignment and the possible start of the crossrail stabling sidings. If other people know what else is going to happen around Maidenhead Station please post a message as im interested in this.
Also I wonder if the electricification masts will start to appear in due course

It is stabling sidings on the up side west of the station, and fairly minor alterations to the layout to allow Crossrail trains to run through the station and return towards London without conflicting with other services.

Not actually a 'depot' as such.

PS - added a snip from a sketch of Crossrail layout from ORR's website.  Red sections are alterations to be used primarily by Crossrail, blue is alterations to be used by non-Crossrail services.

Just heard on local radio there are overrunning works in that area- i wonder if these are the ones they were talking about on Dross FM this morning?

Oh dear why waste the money buiding the turnback sidings.

So why waste money on Turnback sidings at Maidenhead when Reading will be ready to receive Crossrail trains 2 years ealier than required?

Total Waste of MY money!!

Was there in fact ever an announced decision on this question as posed in the London & South East RUS?

I know it was not in the HLOS, but as it was proposed on the basis it would save money, it might not need to be.

The relevant page on NR's website is years out of date, and my attempts to ask them why and what were frustrated by the lack of any address to send e-mails about the site to...

Paul not sure that plan of Maidenhead is quite right it shows 6 through platforms at Maidenhead, I believe that the existing plat 5 is going to be made into 2 bays one for Marlow the other Crossrail


At this stage the plan to terminate Crossrail at Maidenhead are not altered by the change of traction for the TV services read for 165/6's 319's

My personal guess is the change to run Crossrail through to Reading will be in the order of 2021 to 2023 to coincide with the western cord into Heathrow

Thankyou Paul that makes sense to build stabling yard and turnback tracks instead of a depot.
What I should say is that, maybe people know this, however its understandable why the turnback and stabling yard are beening constructed at Maidenhead.
My guessing is that when/if crossrail gets extended to Reading it would be sensable to extend 2 tph during peak periods to Reading with the other 2 tph terminating at Maidenhead. During off peak period the service would continue to Reading. This will help out with capacity at Reading Station, particularly platforms 13 and 14 which may also be used by crosscountry and possible gatwick services. Also if trains need to divide say to Henley or Bourne End coming from Paddington, there would be space available on the new platform 4 (loop).
Platforms 3 and new through platform 5 would be the down and up tracks. Of course a branch bay platform 6 would also be useful. Plus if any additional crossrail services are provided in years to come, both maidenhead and reading turnback facilities will be hopefully welcomed. Hope that isn't the case then.. The "worksite is the whole front car park, Silco Drive plus part of Shoppenhangers car park.. Hopefully is that was going to happen it would be communicated slightly further in advance... Although I guess that won't all be this weekend I do wonder whether Silco drive will be there much long.. After all it appears Apcoa have given up on checking tickets in it all this year  :)

That plan shows the proposed works that I'm expecting (ie. a disaster)

My understanding, and as confirmed by Crossrail, is that:

- Silco will go completely
- Shoppenhangers will lose the lower section
- the forecourt will be closed
- Taxi rank will be reduced and moved
- the bus stop on Shoppenhangers will be moved as the road is narrowed
- all Drog & Go/Kiss & Ride will be removed

Looking at the plan it appears there isn't a direct connection from the branch to the Relief lines. So no through trains even if the branch is electrified.

Also note how they've designated the Relief lines Crossrail! A four track railway should be a four track railway not split 2 for GWML and 2 Crossrail.

It will still be a four track railway, the relief lines may be called Crossrail but they certainly aren't going to just be used by Crossrail.

Under the Crossrail regime there are no through Bourne End - Paddington's.  Not sure what the morning and evening peaks will be 2 or 3 car

What makes you come to that conclusion?

Crossrail's own website (http://www.crossrail.co.uk/route/surface/western-section/#.UZvB9rXEp4w) assumes that there will be 1tph in the peaks through from Bourne End to Paddington and 1pth in the peaks through from Henley on Thames to Paddington.

The branches will be electrified (except Greenford), so the days of the Turbos serving them will be over in a few years time.

This is in Crossrail's list of "other operators'" services, and reflects the "residual GW" service. As such it is the same as now, in the narrow sense that 1 tph during a 2-hour peak and only in the peak direction is 2 a day each way.

It was the proposal in the London & South East RUS, to replace this residual service by Crossrail extended to Reading, that led to the suggestion of suppressing these through services.

That isn't correct though?  The key suggests to me the green lines are the lines Crossrail will use; but they are not the only lines.
