Title: Plymouth - Paddington rtn at the weekend Post by: Pb_devon on May 10, 2013, 12:45:39 Grateful for help & guidance.
Planning a weekend in London out Sat 3 Aug (0747), rtn Sun 4 Aug (1357). I'm getting ^89 on the FGW website for all services up & back on those dates. Even if I see if fares structure is different (and lower!) for nearer dates (as a test), it appears that all other Sat/Sun fares are ^89 rtn. A weekday up & back can be down to ^57. Two questions for you fares experts :) : a) is this FGW's standard pricing strategy for w/e services? b) any split ticket ideas (my feeble attempt didn't seem to produce anything - other than CC to Taunton (v cheap) then change - don't think Mrs pb would wear that!!) cheers pb Title: Re: Plymouth - Paddington rtn at the weekend Post by: Ross H on May 10, 2013, 13:01:27 As that's approx three months away, it could just be that the cheaper advance fares have only been released as far as 2 Aug. This time last year I was sat at my computer ready to pounce when Cross Country released their advance fares to Scotland, and I'd worked out in advance that they released them every Sunday for a week at a time. The National Rail website tells you when the various operators supposedly release their fares, but I didn't find it to be 100% accurate.

They tweet out the new date every time more tickets are released for later dates. Either follow them, or you'll have to keep checking back. I've found the NR page, and indeed it's 27/28 July for FGW - I will keep looking!
Now the challenge to you all is split tickets! pb_devon Title: Re: Plymouth - Paddington rtn at the weekend Post by: ChrisB on May 10, 2013, 16:45:57 No point in looking before the ADvances are on sale - but the cheapest will certainly be splitting at Exeter onto SWT to Waterloo - if you don't mind the length of journey!
