A major music event is to take place on Weston-super-Mare beach this summer.

Music fans were left disappointed last year after Channel 4 bosses said the 2012 T4 on the Beach concert would be the last.

But production company Done + Dusted and ITV2 have joined forces to launch a new beach party, Summer Sets on the Beach, on August 31.

The concert will run from 11am to 7pm and be broadcast live on ITV2 from 3pm-6pm, followed by a one-hour special.

More than 30 artists are due to play one, two or three of their biggest hits. There will be three stages. The line-up will be announced shortly. Tickets will go on sale on May 23.

Kate Maddigan, ITV commissioner for entertainment, said: ^Summer Sets on the Beach will close our summer schedule and start our autumn season with a bang.

^Encompassing all the elements that ITV loves ^ laughs, entertainment, music, fun, celebrities and the feeling that anything can happen because it is live ^ it is going to be one big party that will be as fun to watch as it will be to attend.^

Bosses at Done + Dusted, who produced T4 on the Beach for ten years, said Weston is an ideal venue for a major music event.

Mel Fletcher, Done + Dusted executive producer, said: ^There is no better place to stage such an epic television event than Weston-super-Mare beach. We are thrilled to be bringing people something bigger and better.^

The T4 on the Beach concert was held in Weston for eight years and was one of the highlights of the resort's calendar, attracting around 50,000 revellers to the sands each year.

North Somerset Council tourism chiefs were keen to see the event replaced. They announced this year they were working with another company to bring a new show to the beach.

Councillor Felicity Baker said: ^We are delighted that Done + Dusted is bringing Summer Sets on the Beach to Weston and building on the fantastic track record we have for hosting major music events.

^This promises to be a huge event to top off the summer and we are really looking forward to welcoming thousands of people to the beach to enjoy the show and everything that the town has to offer.^

Weston's Summer Sets on the Beach is cancelled

A new music event in Weston-super-Mare has been cancelled owing to poor ticket sales.

Summer Sets on the Beach was set up to replace the annual T4 on the Beach event after it was dropped by organisers Channel Four last year.

The event on 31 August was being managed by production company Done And Dusted, which produced the T4 gigs.

A spokesman for the company said they were "extremely disappointed" but ticket holders will be fully refunded.

More than 30 artists had been booked to appear including Bath-born singer Gabrielle Aplin, Stooshe, Professor Green and reformed boy band 5ive.

A spokesman for the organisers said: "A number of contributing factors have lead to the cancellation, not least being the tough economic climate resulting in poor ticket sales.

"The organisers would like to thank North Somerset Council and everyone who has supported the event.

"It is with great difficulty and disappointment this decision has had to be made."

Summer Sets on the Beach 2013 was due to be hosted by Caroline Flack and Dave Berry and feature appearances from a range of celebrities.

The show was also due to be aired live on ITV2.
