Title: Advance Fare Tickets Question from Bradford Post by: basset44 on May 02, 2013, 13:58:14 Hi All
Have a weekend up Yorkshire for racing in July can get tickets to leeds from Cardiff via Manchester on the Friday 19th at a great value of about ^20.00 cheapest to Leeds showing on National Rail site (NR) Returning on the Sunday 21st which are not out yet but on NR they are showing a Grand Central (GC) train Bradford to London for about 12.50 advanced but they are saying engineering works may afffect this what train should I book from Padington to Cardiff the GC train arrives kings cross at 14.43. Would i be right in thinking that if the GC train is late i could use my advance tickets, When they are out, on a london to Cardiff train later or not provided i left enough time between arrival at kings cross and departure. Hope this makes sence Basset Title: Re: Advance Fare Tickets Question from Bradford Post by: basset44 on May 07, 2013, 20:05:30 Hi All,
Dont know if I phrased this right but if I buy the Grand Central advanced due Kings Cross 14.43 what is the minimum connection time to Paddington. In other words is it safe to buy the Advanced tickets to Cardiff at 15.30 if the Grand central is late will they be valued on a later train. Thought I understand provided I leave the connection time to above the minimum and you late on the First train your advance ticket is still valued? You have 47 minutes between the arrival of the Grand Central service and the departure of the 1530, so it's fine to book an Advance Purchase on that service to Cardiff. Don't forget that you should also use the Underground between stations. Transferring by any other form of transport means you are technically not covered. The guidance given to rail staff says:
Quote Q22 - Can a passenger travel on any trains other than the one on which they are reserved, without changing the booking? A: The following principles apply. 1). Start of the Journey. It is the passenger^s responsibility to turn up at the start of the journey in time for the first train. If they miss it due to problems parking, taxi not turning up etc, they must buy a new ticket; 2). Once the journey has begun. If the passenger is delayed and the rail industry or its partners (as shown below) is at fault, which should be checked with your Control Office, change to another train of the same company is allowed to get them to their destination with the least delay. This is irrespective of combinations of rail tickets held. Examples are: Included: are passengers travelling on valid: Through domestic or international tickets; e.g. Brighton - Scarborough route ^+TOC X & Connections^; Through rail & partner tickets for which there is a through bus, tube, ferry or metro fare, e.g. London Zone U12 - Leeds, Wisbech Coach - York; Ryde Pier - Hull, etc; Combination of domestic rail-only tickets e.g. rail season ticket Skipton-Leeds plus Advance ticket Leeds-Peterborough; or adjoining Advance tickets; Combination of domestic rail & partner tickets e.g. Brighton - Zone U12 plus Advance ticket London-Manchester, or e.g. Advance ticket Bristol-Paddington plus tube single ticket plus Advance ticket Kings Cross to Hull. All-Zones Travelcard, PTE-products etc (where rail is included) plus Advance ticket; Combination of Eurostar tickets into the UK and then either advance purchase tickets from London Terminals or ^London Intnl CIV^ or ^Lndon Eurostar CIV^. Not included: for the avoidance of doubt, are: Non train-company travel on separate tickets e.g. journeys that commence on bus-only, tube-only, ferry-only or metro-only tickets. (This includes ^PlusBus^ which is a local day- Rover bus ticket, not compatible with a medium/ long distance ^Advance^ single journey, so are kept as separate tickets); or Tickets that cannot be read on-train e.g. smartcards (but allowable where electronically checked, delay verified and Advance ticket endorsed in Travel Centres) Note that last line. If you use Oyster rather than a paper ticket, you need to have any delay on the Underground verified at a ticket office before boarding a subsequent National Rail service to the one originally booked on. Also note that you can buy an Advance ticket that includes Zone 1 Underground travel on some flows. e.g Zone U1* London-Cardiff Central. Thanks, the trip is showing up on National Rail has 69.50 for 2 but I cant buy it, it also shows it connecting with the 4.30. So is i want to buy it I have to enter them separately, We both have Oyster cards. I thought I give it a try like the sound of the Grand Central will probably book the GC and the 4.30 from London Paddington.
