Title: Any fans of Cricket and cryptic picture clues out there?
Post by: JayMac on April 30, 2013, 13:55:22
This isn't rail related, but please indulge me and help me out a bit.

It's one of those picture quizzes with 50 cryptic clues hidden in it. I've managed to get over 40 so far but am struggling with the rest.

http://www.whatzat.co.uk/

Those that I can't fathom.

The fat guy on roller skates, the cow (not his hat - got that one), the bloke fishing, the record in the trees, the orange peel, the tombstone with '1907-2013 DID WELL' on it, the scissors, the bloke with the broom, the guy standing in front of the pavilion surrounded by fallen men, the ray of light, the corkscrew, the dog, the 'Ramsey St' sign, the bat leaning on the stump, the eye chart on the TV, the cardboard box, the mound of grey stuff, the chalk outline.

I'm happy to help others with the answers I have, if they wish to enter.

Prizes on offer are:

Entry into a draw for 5 pairs of tickets to the Twenty20 finals day at Egbaston in August, for guessing 5 right.
Entry into a draw for 5 pairs of tickets to one day of the Ashes Test at Lords in July, for guessing all 50 right.

Closing date 31st May 2013

EDIT: I've now got 'em all. Phew. That was tough, but fun!

I got one of the tombstones as part of my 5.  Then i could go no further.

It was 'century'. (1900 -2000) not strictly correct I feel   ;D ).

Thanks for that one swrural, just 16 left for me now.

Having looked closely at the bat resting on the stumps I see it is part baguette. 'FRENCH CRICKET' being the answer!

And I've just got 'LAST MAN STANDS'.

...and 'ASHES' (thanks bobm)

... and 'HEAVY ROLLER'

Now just 4 to go.

  • the record in the trees
  • the orange peel
  • the bloke with the broom
  • the tombstone with '1907-2013 DID WELL' on it
  • the scissors
  • the corkscrew
  • the eye chart on the TV
  • the dead body outline
  • the ray of light

While updating this list I realised that the dog and the 'Ramsey St' sign were one clue. Knowing your 'Neighbours' history will help....

No answers but might be a clue for someone...

  • the tombstone with '1907-2013 DID WELL' on it - 1907 was the first year South Africa played Test Matches against England in the UK
  • the eye chart on the TV - something to do with Twenty20 cricket?
