Yesterday returning from work changed trains at Radyr for City Line there was 2 ticket inspectors on the down line and 5 on the Up/Down bay one person was having is details taken. Is this a positive sign that Arriva are getting to grip with fare evasion.

No.  Some of the larger stations have barriers but most don't.  The guards/train managers/conductors are instructed not to make their way through the train to check tickets if there are many passengers in the aisles.  So when the trains are rammed there is less chance of a ticket check.

There are also increasing numbers of 142s and 143s running in pairs.  That means of course that the g/tm/c only has access to half the train unless he swaps over at some stage.

I recall some years ago travelling from Buxton to home - change at Stockport, change at Crewe, change at Cardiff Central - without anyone checking my ticket.

I have never seen the conducters check tickets on the later services such as the 2315 Cardiff - Carmarthen service.I regulary use this train to travel from Bridgend to Pyle and the majority of the majority of the time I have gotten a free ride  despite being sat in my seat waiting for the conducter to come out of the cab.

I would purchase a ticket from the TVM but the booking hall at Bridgend station tends to be locked up after 19:30.

I remember last december purchasing a ticket from a tvm @ Cardiff Central to Bridgend at 00:20 after I had got off the 2100 London Victoria - Cardiff National express coach service which arrived at 00:05.

In the end nobody checked my ticket when I traveled on the hst which departed Cardiff Central at 01:00 and got me into Brigen at 01:21
