7.  Weymouth.

Reasoning:  SWT style platform number - and multiple FGW 153s etc.

2.  Taunton.  :-[

2. is indeed Taunton, and 7. is Weymouth ... but 4, sorry, isn't Torquay.   I think that one's possibly quite hard because of the Photoshop attack on the original picture!

2.  Taunton.  :-[

I was tempted to answer that one, but decided to leave it for you chris.  :P ;) ;D

Thanks, mate!  I've actually got a Taunton one right, for once!  :o ::) ;D

I'm going to take a punt and say that 6 is just to the east of Bedwyn.

It is indeed - "Little Bedwyn" I think - and the train stops in Great Bedwyn.   Actually it's all relative; Great Bedwyn isn't all that large.

4. Kemble.  (Preserved ex-GWR water tower in the distance).

Post by: grahame on April 03, 2013, 22:13:10
Yes, 4 is Kemble and 10 is Bradford-on-Avon.

That leaves 1, 5,  9 and 11 to go.

No. 1 is indeed Bathampton Junction (sorry - not Wantage!)

OK  - this is my last attempt - not Montparnasse, or Austerlitz so must be St Lazare (to my surprise if correct, but many years since I've been there)

Yep ... "g" in the away quiz is Paris St Lazare ... where I had just arrived from Cherbourg.   Then on via Frankfurt to Nurnberg ...

My only experience of that Paris station (going back to Caen) was unpleasant, having just been robbed on the metro of my passport, money and tickets.  I spent some time in the Police office and strangely didn't stop to count the number of platforms!  >:( :o ;D

(Good gracious - I've just realised I'm beginning to sound like the trout  :D)

5: In that case it must be Ferry Lane (Claverton) UWC leading to Mill Cottage on the Limpey Stoke line ???

Title: Re: Home and away - HOME.
Post by: grahame on April 04, 2013, 21:27:37
Yes, it's Claverton ... which leaves no.s 9 and 11 to identify.

Dear all - please forgive my lack of attention in posting in the wrong place earlier.  I was slow in picking up the new competition.

Don't worry ... I probably made the titles far too similar.   Now - I am surprised that no-one's got home pictures 9 or 11 ...

9.

11.

Both of which were taken at stations with a plentiful supply of FGW trains amongst others!

Some further clues grahame? I'll probably kick myself for #11, having looked and looked for a possible location.

Gosh ... both pictures that I took in March, one in a place that's very familiar indeed to both you and one of our admins. The other one's an interchange that I used when looking to travel without the need to take on a mortgage to pay the fare.

Hmm. ::)  Like bignosemac, I have an increasingly uneasy feeling that 11 is somewhere along the Severn Beach Line that I really ought to recognize ...  :-[

I hope I'm not wrong, but I've dismissed the idea that #11 is on the Severn Beach Line.

#9. It's bleddy Taunton again innit? Real sneaky grahame, featuring Taunton twice in one quiz!  ::) :o

Amazing what you fail to notice in your own home town. That logo (no idea what it represents - anyone?) has been on the bridge since at least September 2012 (visible on Google Street View) and I've completely failed to notice it despite walking under that bridge at least two dozen times since September.

EDIT. I've discovered what the logo represents. http://www.projecttaunton.co.uk/

Yeppp ... I've rather a good selection of Taunton pictures.

Number 11 ain't Severn Beach line, nor indeed Bristol ...

#11 isn't somewhere daft like Deep West Cornwall? Say West of Bodmin Parkway... I wonder if you've been a bit economical with the term 'Interchange' too ;) (Thinking Bus Station and Rail Station such as St Austell) ;)

There *are* some daft things (like the buffet location and hours) at #11, but it's not in West Cornwall.  The new DfT figures show over 1000 interchanges there per day, and I think their definition is rail to rail.  I certainly account for 1 of those interchanges on days I pass by the place.
