Title: Wiltshire to Birmingham Post by: Kim on February 12, 2013, 08:14:11 Me again, just thought I'd put this up in case there are any cheaper routes that I haven't thought of.
Outward: Sunday 10th March. I would like (although not essential) to arrive into Birmingham New Street by 10:30. Rules out Melksham in either case, as those would be too late. Return: Tuesday 12th March. Preferably on the TransWilts from Cheltenham - Melksham, but again not essential. I have a 16 - 25 Railcard and a season ticket from Melksham - Bristol TM which I could use on the way. I don't mind advance tickets providing there is a decent connection time. Thanks :) Title: Re: Wiltshire to Birmingham Post by: ChrisB on February 12, 2013, 10:07:41 Be surprised if you can achieve this arrival time on a Sunday....
Title: Re: Wiltshire to Birmingham Post by: thetrout on February 12, 2013, 10:31:02 I think it's been decided that Melksham - Droitwich Spa is the cheapest BHM ticket? Although I think there is some ambiguity around that one. In which case as you have a Melksham Season the best trick is split at Cheltenham Spa. This works with Advance tickets as well :-\
Agree with ChrisB that CPM - BHM for 10:30AM on a Sunday isnt going to happen I'm afraid... You're looking at 11:49 (09:30 FGW to Bristol Temple Meads - 10:30 CrossCountry to BHM - 32 minute wait at BRI) as the first option. As the timings aren't great, you might be better going up on the Saturday and grabbing a cheap hotel say Premier Inn, Formule1 or Ibis Budget which are around ^30 a night AIUI. But being a Saturday Night in a cheap hotel in Birmingham............. :-X Title: Re: Wiltshire to Birmingham Post by: ChrisB on February 12, 2013, 10:50:30 Can recommend the Night Night hotel just off Broad Street/Navigation Street. Only about 10 mins from New Street station. Little room to swing a cat, but has a very comfortabe double bed, an excellent wet room (no bath, but a shower to die for), free wifi & a 42" flat TV.....
For an overnight doss, can't beat it, IMHO. Title: Re: Wiltshire to Birmingham Post by: Kim on February 12, 2013, 13:27:05 I was initially going to go up on the Saturday, but the Travelodge for that night was more than the other two nights put together by quite a long way. I'll take a look at the other hotels - thanks for the suggestions.
Title: Re: Wiltshire to Birmingham Post by: JayMac on February 12, 2013, 15:06:54 Concur about the Night Night hotel. That's where I had an enforced stay following falling asleep on a CrossCountry service and missing Bristol.
