Title: Cornwall + Devon Railcard queries
Post by: LiskeardRich on January 24, 2013, 20:14:48
Today I purchased a Cornwall and Devon Railcard, but have a couple of queries relating to it.
1) Is there any morning time restrictions, like other railcards?
2) Is the option of Cornwall and Devon Railcards on TVMs

Yes, its an 'off peak' restriction, so generally 9 am (or where the ticket becomes off peak)

TVM machines do have the option, again, only when off peak tickets can be bought>

The Manual states that the railcard has no peak restrictions, that assumes that you can get railcard discount on peak fares, whether or not that is an error or not...

Clearly states Not valid on Anytime fares, this would mean peak tickets?!

I don't have one any more as I'm 'Senior' now but they are off peak only - they can be used before 9am depending on where you board the train i.e. St Erth 8.55 am on the up.
Fantastic value for money as you can take a friend at the same discounted fare - combine that with a PlusBus for say Plymouth and that's a cheap day out.

Me and the wife, and kids went to St Ives yesterday, I bought the railcard as travel round Cornwall regularly, wife never travels without me. Going Redruth to St Ives, I saved ^2.90 back in one trip (kids both under 5). Not bad for a ^10 railcard.

I used to use my Devon and Cornwall RailCard to commute to work. My train was at 08:52 (Exeter Central to Digby and Sowton) so it was off-peak. In fact, I think it was cheaper to buy 5 RailCard Off-Peaks for Monday to Friday than it was to buy a weekly season.

But, I cycle to work nowadays - even cheaper!!
