Title: Rangers/Rovers over Christmas Post by: bobm on December 02, 2012, 11:20:36 I picked up a FGW Christmas leaflet on Friday which, among other things, says all restrictions on Off Peak and Super Off Peak tickets are lifted between 22nd Dec and 1st Jan.
I am planning on getting a Freedom of South West 8 in 15 over that period and wondered whether this also applies to that ticket. The booking office weren't sure. Anyone know from past experience? Title: Re: Rangers/Rovers over Christmas Post by: JayMac on December 02, 2012, 14:06:47 The time restriction on National Rail Enquiries states:
Quote Available after 0900 (Mondays-Fridays) or when Cheap Day Return is valid (whichever is earlier). Available all day Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. Leaving aside the issue that there are no longer such things as Cheap Day Returns - they are now called Off Peak Day Returns - I'd say the Rover was valid at any time 24th December to 1st January on FGW priced flows, going by restriction text for various FGW priced Off Peak Day Returns. These all have their time restrictions lifted during that period. Not sure why this leaflet is saying starting 22nd December seeing as that is a Saturday anyway when there are no time restrictions on Off Peak/Super Off Peak/Off Peak Day tickets. CrossCountry priced flows also have their time restrictions lifted during the same period. But be a little more wary of any journeys where Arriva Trains Wales or South West Trains price the flow. They don't have restrictions lifted during that period. Title: Re: Rangers/Rovers over Christmas Post by: bobm on December 02, 2012, 14:52:46 Many thanks.
The full text is "Peak travel restrictions are lifted from 22 December 2012 to 1 January 2013 inclusive. All Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak, Off Peak-Day and Off-Peak Travelcard tickets will be available for travel at any time of day on all First Great Western services during this period." Which as you say, now I have thought about it, is strange they quote the start date as a Saturday. As as aside it also states Weekend First will be available throughout the period too. It ends with a reminder that "revised fares" come into operation on the 2nd Jan. :( Title: Re: Rangers/Rovers over Christmas Post by: swrural on December 02, 2012, 20:04:41 This got me looking at the FGW web site. Regardless of date validity (and I don't see anything wrong with the notice starting date being the Saturday - you get the message in one go that way) what surprised me was the repeated typo of Severn in Severn and Solent as Seven.
