Rail passengers faced disruption after a train hit a tree between Southampton Central and Fareham.

A First Great Western train was involved in the incident near Swanwick at about 06:00 GMT.

Services were suspended while track engineers removed the tree, which had become lodged underneath the train.

A spokesman said the train's passengers were uninjured and the line had been reopened, but warned significant delays would follow.
