Post by: grahame on October 30, 2012, 15:51:37
30 th Oct 2 in one day.

I hate to ask ... but didn't I notice that the 06:24 Parkway to Penzance also ran late due to "person hit by train" - was there a third in the early hours?

Yes, it looks like there was.  In the Starcross area at just gone midnight with the 23:41 Paignton to Exeter St. Davids train.  Can't get much more detail than that though.

[Edit: Just noticed Ollie has said pretty much the same thing in a different thread!]

A person has died after being struck by a train on the line at Powderham.

The driver of the 11.41pm service from Paignton to Exeter St. Davids struck a person on the Up Main line at Powderham footpath crossing, between Starcross and Exminster at 00.27am this morning.

Both lines were blocked with trains being held Newton Abbot and Exeter St. Davids.

Three trains were delayed for more than five hours.

British Transport Police classified as a deliberate non suspicious act.

The train involved was authorised to proceed at 01.38am.

An absolute tragedy, but was any journalist involved in writing the story?

Found out yesterday that the individual involved worked in the same company office in Exeter as me. Although only a 'nodding acquaintance' (they were employed in a different department) it brought into sharp focus the reality of never knowing what people are really thinking - our last conversation concerned a collection they were organising for a well liked soon-to-retire co-worker and there was no hint of any personal issues.
