New lifts have had an up and down start to life at Leominster railway station ^ as passengers can only use them at certain times.

A county councillor from the town says she has received calls from angry rail users disappointed that, due to a technical problem, the lifts can only be used when the ticket office is open.

^I have been in touch with Arriva Trains Wales over the last few weeks who assure me that efforts are being made to sort out the problems, but so far we have had no results,^ said Councillor Felicity Norman. ^We have been waiting for better access for many, many years through lifts or a ramp and were delighted when the lifts were opened. We were assured they would be available at any time.

^This causes serious inconvenience, not only to people with a disability, but also parents with small children and pushchairs, older people, those with heavy luggage and anyone with a temporary disability such as a broken leg.^

The lifts were opened in July this year after years of campaigning.

Network Rail said it was aware of the problem and was working with its contractor to fix it.
