Title: Dawlish sea wall webcam
Post by: JayMac on October 16, 2012, 18:33:48
Just discovered this webcam. Excellent view of the main line along the sea wall.

EDIT: This opening post has been edited to provide a link to the new Dawlish webcam, re-sited after the owner of the property, where the original camera was located, sold up.

I've seen references to the cam before and never been able to find it.

Thanks for that bobm. It's a controllable cam as well!

But, I'm getting greyed out areas. Most importantly when trying to look up and down the main line.

I got that too.  They seem to clear after a while.  I tracked the 07:41 from Penzance to Paddington between the two cameras!

I spotted the location of the Dawlish webcam today. It is fixed to some trellis on a rear garden patio of a property that is right next to the footbridge at the London end of Dawlish station.

Been watching the camera today to see how the bad weather is developing.  In the last couple of hours it has moved to show more of the sea than the railway.  Not sure if that is deliberate or the wind caught it!

EDIT:
Of course as soon as I posted that it swung back again!  Interesting to note normally when I look at it there are 20-30 viewers, at the moment there are 640!

It appears to be offline - I wonder if it has been washed away!

railcam.org.uk (http://railcam.org.uk/) have explained that their host in Dawlish has sold the property to which the webcam was attached. They are, according to their Facebook page, working their socks off to find another location in Dawlish for a webcam, and hope to have the camera rehoused sometime soon.

Meanwhile, as is the way with the internet, here's a picture of a cat... caught on another lineside webcam:

Remember folks, railway trespass is not a good idea. Cats have nine lives, you only have one.  ;D

I guess we will never know, but I wonder how many will pay those prices to look at it.

For what you are getting in terms of quality, I think it's a very good price.
