The body of a man was found on a railway line near Dorchester on Friday night.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said officers went to the line near Woodsford level crossing in Crossways following the report of a body on the line just after 10pm.

She said: "The incident was also attended by Dorset Police and is being treated as non-suspicious. Paramedics from South West Ambulance Service attended but the man, believed to be 65-year-old and from Dorchester, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner."

The train involved was the 21.10 Bournemouth to Weymouth service.
