Man hit on rail tracks set to survive - British Transport Police

A man has been left with head injuries after being hit by a train near Llanelli station this morning.

Officials from Arriva Trains Wales and the British Transport Police said that a man was hit by the 8.15am Swansea to Carmarthen service at around 8.40am this morning, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Both the eastbound and westbound lines on the route were closed as the line ground to a halt while emergency services worked at the scene, causing more than two hours of delays for passengers.

A spokesman on behalf of Arriva Trains Wales said that road transport had been set-up for passengers affected while the lines were closed.

He added: ^The incident happened on the Swansea side of Llanelli station, and is believed to have occurred around 500 yards outside the station. There has been some disruption in that area and road transport has been organised for those affected.^

The line serving Llanelli to Swansea was reopened at 10am, he said, while the Swansea to Carmarthen line was reopened at 10.45am.

A spokeswoman for the British Transport Police (BTP) said: ^British Transport Police officers were called to the line close to Llanelli railway station on September 22 after a report that a male had been struck by a train.

^Officers from BTP and local police attended the incident which was reported at 8.41am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

^Paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service also attended. The male has sustained head injuries not believed to be life-threatening.^
