A slight departure from the norm with this quiz. Instead of requesting one answer each for the first 24 hours, I'm asking for your full list of answers by Personal Message (PM). The person getting the most right by 2359 on Sunday 2nd September will be offered a small prize, a gift card from a High St retailer of their choice. In the event of a tie, a random draw will be conducted by a forum administrator to decide the winner. This thread will be locked so that no answers can be posted directly to it. Full rules, terms and conditions and entry criteria can be found below.

There's some easy ones in the selection and some not so easy ones. All photos are on or near stations on either the national network or heritage rail locations. When answering please provide the full name of the station. If you're not sure of an answer than have a guess, you might be lucky!

Due to the image sizes the pictures are best viewed on a monitor, laptop or tablet. Smartphone users may have difficulty viewing them.

Rules:

Entry: One entry per person. All entries to be submitted to bignosemac by Personal Message (PM). Please title your Personal Message (PM) "Prize Quiz August 2012", then list your answers 1-20. Personal Messages (PM) can be sent by clicking on the speach bubble icon below bignosemac's profile picture or by using the forum's 'My Messages' button. Closing date for entries will be 2359 (11:59pm) Sunday 2nd September 2012. Entries after that time will not be accepted.

Eligibilty: The quiz is open to all registered members of the Great Western Passenger's Forum (aka Coffee Shop). The forum's Administrators and Moderators are not eligible to enter.

Answers: All images are of UK National Rail or Heritage Rail locations. Station locations must be named in full (i.e. Bristol would not be an acceptable answer when the image is of Bristol Parkway). Lineside locations can be answered with either details of the specific location or the full name of the nearest UK National Rail or Heritage Rail station.

Winning Entry: The winning entry will be the one having the most correct answers. A list of correct answers has been provided to the forum's Administrator/Moderator team. In the event of a tie, the tied entries will each be assigned a number by bignosemac and an Administrator will pick one of those numbers at random. The Administrator will not be informed of the forum name or avatar of the tied entries. Following completion of the quiz the list of correct answers and the forum name of the winner will be posted on the prize quiz thread.

Prize: The prize will be a ^10 Gift Card for a High Street retailer. The choice of retailer may be made by the winner. The winner will be required to provide address details to bignosemac and the prize will be forwarded by recorded Royal Mail delivery. Those address details will not be published or stored and there is no requirement to provide your real name.

General: Outside of entry to the quiz and awarding of the prize, no correspondence will be entered into. The decisions of the Moderators and Administrators of this forum will be final. These General Terms and the Specific Rules shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English law and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.

I'm posting here in support of bignosemac, simply to encourage all of you to enter this quiz.

There are 20 pictures: I'm not eligible to take part, but I'd have got three (or possibly four) right - so if you think you can do as well, if not better, please do join in!  ;) :D ;D

I'll not publish all the entries for modesty/embarrassment reasons, but if you entered and are happy to see your score published then ask here and I'll put it up for all to see.

Feedback on the quiz would also be appreciated. This is the first time we've attempted a prize quiz on the forum and it'd be nice to hear what you thought, with any observations or criticisms welcome. Such a quiz may become a semi-regular feature, a few times a year around traditional holiday times, if deemed worthwhile.

Oh, and it wasn't a HST arriving at Nailsea & Backwell, that's a Mk2 carriage. Former Anglia Railways stock used on the loco-hauled Cardiff-Taunton/Paignton services. Picture taken October September 8th 2010.

Don't worry, Ollie: I would have got very few right myself, if I'd been eligible to enter - and even having seen all of the correct answers, there are still a lot I would never have got!

The standard of entries overall was very high: we had a winner with all 20 right, a runner up with 19 - and two others with 18 each, out of a total of 12 entries!  Having set up a very robust tie-break procedure, thinking it surely wouldn't be used, we actually came very close to having to do so!  :o

An idea for the next quiz could be something along the lines of charge ^1 for entry.

Therefore BNM doesn't have to pay for the prize out of his own pocket and also the more people that enter, the higher the prize!

Well having basked in my 15 minutes of fame I'd just like to say my bit.

With or without the prize I'd like to see more of these types of quizzes rather than the "everyone have one guess in 24 hours" type.  I enjoyed having the time to research the ones I didn't immediately know.  A couple I thought I had worked out only to remember that the location I had guessed didn't have third rail or overhead etc so had to delve some more.  The hardest one for me was Liskeard - didn't recognise it in the mist and fog!

On a wider point I enjoy the community we have here on the coffeeshop.  I have learned things, I have been to places I have read about on here, I've saved money because of tips gleaned on here, I have met new friends both on and off line and on the odd occasion I hope I have added something to the debate.

Sounds like an Oscar acceptance speech - didn't mean it that way, but heres to more lively informed debate and more quizzes, although I promised Bignosemac I'll recuse myself from the next prize one!

Liskeard!! I spent ages attempting to place it, to no avail - and i've been there!

It's enough of a business setting up, running and keeping track without asking for an entry fee as well. Charging would mean bank transfers which would mean responsibility for more personal information. A couple further legal aspects that I'd rather not deal with.

The odd tenner or more a few times of year is no biggie for bignosemac, particularly as he now has gainful regular employment.  ;) :)

Well I knew I didn't have 20 right as I didn't have a Scooby Doo where number 3 was. Other than on the Southern, I did wonder if it was a SWT unit but not on a SWT served line.

IIRC I got number 1 wrong,

6 threw me for a while as it's NEVER misty at Liskeard only ever Dry or Raining.

Would BNM confirm my Score please.

I would have got 11 if I'd remember to post the bracknell one - I only know that cos I was on the up platform under that bridge when I was withering on to my mom and my mate about possibly not getting my Match flight to the states cos of that iceland volcano - I noted at the time the disparity between the platforms - I said it was bracknell - but when we compiled the results we forgot it!
