Title: It's........ yet another 'Where was I today?' Post by: JayMac on August 22, 2012, 23:54:56 I'm going to have to start thinking of some more original thread titles for these. ;)
Three pictures from today, 22nd August 2012. One underpass to a station, and two station locations. Where? 1. (http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt68/bignosemac/101_0829.jpg) 2. (http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt68/bignosemac/101_0855.jpg) 3. (http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt68/bignosemac/101_0873.jpg) Coming up for the Bank Holiday weekend is a bignosemac bumper picture quiz with a small prize on offer for the most correct guesses. More of that this coming Saturday. Keep your eyes peeled here in 'The Lighter Side' Title: Re: It's........ yet another 'Where was I today?' Post by: Chris from Nailsea on August 23, 2012, 00:15:06 I think you might be winding us up - particularly with picture 3. ;)

Any ideas then Chris? ;) Just noticed a rather unfortunate crop of the first picture on the left edge. :o Title: Re: It's........ yet another 'Where was I today?' Title: Re: It's........ yet another 'Where was I today?' Post by: JayMac on August 23, 2012, 12:00:20 Is number 2 the SVR at Kidderminster? Half a point. Yes the SVR but not Kidderminster. Is #3 Hastings? Sorry, no. Title: Re: It's........ yet another 'Where was I today?' Post by: grahame on August 23, 2012, 13:19:51 As I look at the pictures, I keep thinking you might have been to Bridgnorth.
Title: Re: It's........ yet another 'Where was I today?' Post by: Btline on August 23, 2012, 15:18:41 1. Stourbridge Town?
And I agree with Graham about Bridgnorth. Title: Re: It's........ yet another 'Where was I today?' Post by: chuffed on August 23, 2012, 17:22:45 Bridgnorth Cliff railway/

Post by: JayMac on August 24, 2012, 02:14:54 In a roundabout way, all answered correctly
1. Underpass to Stourbridge Town station. 2. Bridgnorth Station on the Severn Valley Railway. 3. High Town Station on the Bridgnorth Cliff Railway (and the next door Winding House Tea Rooms ;)) I'll post some more pictures from the day out shortly. Title: Re: It's........ yet another 'Where was I today?' Post by: Btline on August 24, 2012, 11:43:35 Hope you enjoyed your trip to my local patch! (although not to be local for much longer :( )
Title: Re: It's........ yet another 'Where was I today?' Post by: JayMac on August 24, 2012, 14:08:23 Yes thanks Btline, a most enjoyable day out in the West Midlands and Shropshire marred only slightly by delays getting home and very poor customer service from London Midland. That's a story covered in another thread (http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=11176.0) viewable to Frequent Posters.
The Severn Valley Railway is a gem. Not been there since I was a kid. A real surprise on Wednesday was seeing a Southern Railway Bullied Battle of Britain Class locomotive in action. Still running-in following overhaul, but in passenger service. Best part of the day though was being invited up onto the footplate of LMS Ivatt Class 4, 43106 at Bridgnorth and being allowed to shovel some coal into the firebox. That mad this big kid very happy! (http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt68/bignosemac/101_0905a.jpg) The beautifully kept Arley Station, with all the period features including a Station Master straight out of central casting! (http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt68/bignosemac/101_0907a.jpg) First time I've ever seen a GWR poster featuring the town where I grew up (http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt68/bignosemac/101_0947a.jpg) Bridgnorth Cliff Railway, High Town (http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt68/bignosemac/101_0871a.jpg) And finally..... In the Gents at Kidderminster Town station. I wasn't even wearing a dress! :P (http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt68/bignosemac/101_0945a.jpg) Title: Re: It's........ yet another 'Where was I today?' Post by: Btline on August 24, 2012, 14:30:33 Next time you go, I recommend Bewdley station (3 platforms - still has the atmosphere of being a double junction) and even the short walk into the town centre.

Quote Bridgnorth Cliff Railway owner could quit over wall repair costs The owner of a cliff railway has said he will walk away if he is asked to pay for repairs to a nearby wall. Dr Malvern Tipping, who has run the railway in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, for 12 years, said the wall is the responsibility of the town council and he could not afford the likely costs. The town council has not yet said who will pay for the work, but repairs started on Monday. The railway been closed since December 2022 as engineers studied the wall. Bridgnorth Cliff Railway is one of the country's oldest and steepest inland funicular railways.
