Title: New Picture Theme Post by: grahame on July 10, 2012, 15:54:14 A new picture theme at the top of the forum - a positive look forward. We're seeing investment announced, investment planned, and investment underway as I write. We're seeing growth in passenger numbers. We're seeing plans being made for the next 15 years. We're seeing the shape of franchising and the fare structure being looked at. Get all of these right and the railways have, indeed, a positive future.
Most of the pictures taken last week ... I'm sure you can work out quite a bit about the return trip I took and place the pictures. And can you also spot the odd handful out? Title: Re: New Picture Theme Post by: BerkshireBugsy on July 10, 2012, 15:58:29 Well, I am not very good at these quizzes and I can only see one pic in the top right corner which I think is Kings Cross.
I am talking about the pic with Platform 0 in it. EDIT: I have just realised the pic changes when the page refreshes...DOH! Title: Re: New Picture Theme Post by: grahame on July 10, 2012, 16:01:24 Well, I am not very good at these quizzes and I can only see one pic in the top right corner which I think is Kings Cross. Each time you refresh the page / move on to another page, you'll be given another image at random from the set of 30. And for being "not very good", you have correctly identified one of the locations ;D Clicking on an individual image will display it larger, and the URL will give you its number if you want to mention it particularly Title: Re: New Picture Theme Post by: bobm on July 10, 2012, 16:53:29 http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/plf/plf03.jpg (http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/plf/plf03.jpg) looks to be Swindon.
Title: Re: New Picture Theme Post by: LiskeardRich on July 10, 2012, 17:17:50 http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/plf/plf23.jpg is definitly chippenham given away by the sign, so we have chippenham - swindon on the route taken
Title: Re: New Picture Theme Post by: Worcester_Passenger on July 10, 2012, 17:19:47 PLF07 looks to be Paddington, but with a Chiltern train. Were they running to Paddington instead of Marylebone a few weekends ago?
Title: Re: New Picture Theme Post by: BerkshireBugsy on July 10, 2012, 20:49:04 http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/plf/plf03.jpg is that Swindon? I believe that may be what I know as the Allied Dunbar building in the background
Title: Re: New Picture Theme Post by: grahame on July 10, 2012, 21:42:35 All spot on ... about 10 days ago on the Sunday, Chiltern were indeed running from Paddington.
Title: Re: New Picture Theme Post by: John R on July 10, 2012, 21:50:41 http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/plf/plf03.jpg is that Swindon? I believe that may be what I know as the Allied Dunbar building in the background Now very vacant and not used by Allied Dunbar's successor. However, the white building that seems to be sprouting from the top of the power car is the Zurich UK Life Centre - from which one of the corner offices is an excellent place to keep an eye on movements on the GWML! Title: Re: New Picture Theme Post by: plymothian on July 11, 2012, 18:02:43 http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/plf/plf09.jpg

I like the fact that the answer has been posted as http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/plf/plf04.jpg (http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/plf/plf04.jpg.)Yeah -- doesn't tell you the routing ;D . Is 02 also Swindon the Gloucester bay? That may be its current name, but it's going to be renames "The TransWilts Bay" at some date in the future. Come electrification of the main line, the services via Kemble will all be through from London. And with extra TransWilts services, the Bay's the natural place for them. Mind you - I hope the stock utilisation will be much better so that there will be a TransWilts train waiting at Swindon for MUCH less time than the Cheltenhams do ... Title: Re: New Picture Theme Post by: Chris from Nailsea on July 14, 2012, 22:25:27 A few more 'suggestions' for locations from me, then: ;)
