Post by: Mookiemoo on July 09, 2012, 15:54:40
For a day return from Dublin Connolly to Belfast Central

SAturday 18th August

I am using irishrail.ie but because its not bookable online I can't seem to get it to tell me the fare!

Going mad.

Ahh, wait - that only shows the fares from Belfast to Dublin.

You need to use http://journeyplanner.irishrail.ie/bin/query.exe/en - although it won't give you a fare in August, if you pick an earlier date it's 9.99 euros for a single.

Two years ago a day return from Connolly to Belfast Central cost me 30 euros, I bought that on the day from the ticket machine at Connolly station. You could book online which as TJ said is 9.99 euros single but they also charge a booking fee I believe and I couldn't get the system to accept my card two years ago so I ended up buying on the day. Irish fares information seems very hard to obtain and confusing, even compared to our system.

Are you over in Ireland at the moment Mookie? I always lose track of where you're based.

You haven't posted in a while... :(

Well I'm trying to keep a low profile since I feel a little like poacher come game keeper.

I also don't post much on cotswolds issues and first class since - um - I don't exactly pay in general these days

I know CERTAIN PEOPLE read these forums and that is just a by product of positive developments in my life

I am working in ireland and mr mooks (aka the flyingscotsman on here - if he ever bothers to post lol) is coming over to visit and fancies going to belfast - hence the Q

Nor do I, but that doesn't mean that opinions on non cost related issues such as journey times, punctuality, frequency, cleanliness and so on are not still perfectly valid.

Posts and opinions are welcome from all and sundry - even from those who feel they may have turned from poacher to gamekeeper.  ;)
